Golf is a game one can never master yet still we play it in all weather

South East Wales is spoilt for golf courses most of which are to a very high standard. Listed below are most of the courses (al in time) which are a very short commute from Tintern.

Alice Springs
Alice Springs is a genuine all weather course, (we closed only two days last year). With NO temporary greens and NO holes closed. Dedicated buggy paths ensure buggies are available all year round.

The clubhouse incorporates a players' bar which leads onto a patio area overlooking the 18th green. We also offer a wide selection of freshly prepared food and a friendly atmosphere. There is also a large restaurant and a self contained function room with bar that can cater for parties of up to 120. New club members can join immediately and there is no joining fee. We welcome visiting golf societies and can provide a variety of packages to suit your individual requirements.

Our resident PGA Professional, Stuart Steel, offers a wide range of tuition for beginners and improvers.

The Professional Shop offers all you need from clubs and clothing to an extensive range of golf accessories from leading brands.

Caerleon Golf Course

Caerleon Golf Course was one of the first council courses in Wales. It is a nine- hole course ideal for beginners and young children.

Caerleon Golf course is open seven days a week from 8am to 8pm and is located near the Roman Amphitheatre. There is no joining fee and golfers can arrive and play on a casual basis.

Cardiff Golf Club
Cardiff Golf Club, founded in 1922, is a 6,000 yard parkland course with a variety of mature trees which requires accurate tee shots and coupled with the small to medium size greens demands a high standard of approach shots. The course is well bunkered and an added hazard is a small stream meandering through the course. Playing the course is a most pleasurable experience, where it is difficult to imagine that you are in the environs of Wales's largest and Capital city.

The clubhouse, the construction of which was completed in 1998, provides spacious and comfortable facilities to both member and visitor alike and includes bars, restaurant and lounge. On the ground floor is located the Professional, Terry Hanson's Golf Shop where you can find a wide range of golfing equipment and also high quality advice and tuition from Terry and his staff.

Dinas Powis Golf Club

The course has dramatic views over the Bristol Channel , Penarth and Barry and countryside to the north east.

It is challenging and very well presented. After completion of your round, you are guaranteed a friendly atmosphere in the clubhouse.

It is a favourite venue with societies and visitors for its splendid clubhouse, delicious cuisine, snacks and beers.

Dewstow Golf Course

The Valley Course opened in 1988, and was developed around the natural contours of the Dewstow estate meadowlands. It features many mature trees which have been supplemented with the addition of several thousand new trees, now themselves well established.

A par 72, 6091 yards (off the white tees), easy walking course, featuring several ponds supporting a plethora of wild life, including Carp, Damsel and Dragon flies. It is not unusual to see Buzzards performing slow, lazy circles in the sky over Caerwent throughout the year.

Llanishen Golf Club
Llanishen Golf Club is a parkland course situated on the hillside in north Cardiff and overlooks the city, the Bristol Channel and Somerset coast line.

Whereas the course is not long it does present a challenge to all handicap players. With a pleasant variety on left to right and right to left shaped holes combined with small target areas from tee to fairway and fairway to green, playing to your handicap will be an achievement in itself.

Llanwern Golf Club

The club is one of the oldest in South Wales and remains a members’ club dedicated to providing an excellent course and club facility for the benefit of golfers of all ages and backgrounds. The Monmouth Golf Club

Monmouth certainly has every justification for its claim to be one of the prettiest courses in Wales and is undoubtedly one that is renowned for the warm welcome offered to its’ guests.

The course stands on high ground above the Town with superb views of the Welsh Hills, Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. The undulating parkland course, superbly maintained throughout the year, is 5582 yards off the white tees ,5399 off yellow (Par 69, SSS 67) and 5061 yards off the Ladies’red tees (Par 70 SSS70).

Wernddu Golf Club
Wernddu is an undulating parkland course with magnificent views over Abergavenny and the Black Mountains. A long front nine combined with a shorter back nine provide a challenging round of golf for golfers of all standards.

Wernddu is a family run golf club set on the outskirts of the market town of Abergavenny. The course is southwest facing, on well drained soil and its layout complements the contours of the previous fruit farm.

West Monmouthshire Golf Club
We are proud to say that we are the highest golf course in Great Britain as recognised by the Guinness book of records. Officially the Highest Golf Club in Great Britain

Set in an attractive rural location overlooking the Brecon Beacons there are spectacular views over the Gwent, Powys and Monmouthshire countryside. The 14th tee is the highest point of the course, standing at over 1500 ft above sea level. Established in 1906, the course design by Ben Sayer offers a challenging test of golf.

Woodlake Park

Set in 140 acres in one of the most beautiful areas of Gwent, Woodlake Park overlooks the spectacular Llandegfedd reservoir, the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and the Vale of Usk. The championship standard course has a par of 71 and standard scratch of 72.

Opened in 1993, the course has matured quickly and the quality of both fairways and greens make this one of the finest inland golf courses in Wales. The greens, including the practice greens, were all constructed to the U.S.Golf Association specifications and are truly one of the major assets of the course.
